In case you missed it, yesterday was "Future Day", the day that Marty McFly and Doc Brown arrive in our present day from the distant year of 1985, 30 years ago today. Who would have thought that this day would ever come?
Within the past week you may have seen Back to the Future gifs and memes all explaining how as of October 21, 2015 Part II of the franchise would actually be a movie about the past.
I found this to be a rather strange comment or rather view point on the franchise's "future". True, I'll wake up and realize that I will no longer be waiting for Marty and Doc to get here. But who is to say that it is an alternate time line? That perhaps their actions in 1955 or 1985 or even 1885 have changed the outcome of 2015. Or maybe it just doesn't matter.
When Doc Brown travels with Marty and Jennifer to help save their kids it still doesn't change the excitement and the mystery of what is waiting for them in the future, even if you you've seen in like 2,015 times!
Films about the future are never 100% percent accurate. Look at Blade Runner, Freejack, Metropolis, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Equilibrium, Minority Report, Mad Max, Planet of the Apes, Elysium, The Fifth Element, and Star Trek. Some of these timelines have already happened some have not. Some of these may happen in history of man, others most likely not but it doesn't and it shouldn't change the quality of the story of the film. It is unfair to hold a movie to such a standard.
The flying cars, hover boards, self drying cloths, self-lacing sneaker (affordable ones anyway) are waiting some where in the future. There is still such excitement and wonder about Marty and Doc's journey through time and their "2015" will always feel like the future we'll always go back to.
