Marvel is preparing themselves for a universal reboot after the events of Secret Wars concludes. Nearly 60 new titles are expected to launch this fall including a new on going series for Dr. Strange, the first in nearly 25 years.
The creative team consists of writer Jason Aaron (Thor) and Chris Bachalo (X-men) and together they plan on presenting the Sorcerer supreme in a new light, including a battle axe, bow and arrow and some new foot wear. In a interview with Entertainment Weekly Aaron explains:
"I think what we’re doing speaks to what made Doctor Strange cool and unique in the Marvel Universe. Even back in the 1960s when he first appeared, he was kind of the first guy who dealt with the occult and the mystical in Marvel."
This new take on Strange will certainly be more physical in terms of his conflict with villains. We won't be finding the good doctor levitating in a trace, astral projections shouting incantations. Or maybe you will, all I know is Strange is packing a huge axe for his adventures now.
"...We’re not turning him into Captain America or Thor where he has one weapon he carries around at all times. But certainly, we don’t want him to just be the guy who stands there and shoots blasts of magic energy out of his hands. We want him to be able to dive into different kinds of fights. So we’ll see him use his power and use a lot of different weapons in very different ways."
