Saturday, at the Special Edition: NYC, Marvel Comics announced at their "Marvel Next Big Thing!" panel that writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Marquez would be helming the next run of The Invincible Iron Man.
The team is set to bring along a new set of gadgets including a suit that will change into any of the past Iron Man suits. The new suit will also feature a new helmet that is reminiscent of a medieval knight. Hopefully this will mean that after the events of Secret War we will no longer have "jerkyer-than-usual-silver-suit-wearin'" Tony Stark. Bendis also plans to include new threats, new loves, and a new supporting cast. In an interview with USA Today, Bendis explains:
It's about a boy and his toy and what would make that toy the coolest toy ever. That's what the armor would be.
Bendis, clearly is no stranger to writing comics especially for Marvel but over his time writing Ultimate Spider-Man and the New Avengers he's never tackled a solo Iron Man title. For that reason I was taken aback to hear that he feels that Iron Man, not Spider-Man is the "crown jewel" of Marvel Comics. He's not wrong, before the release of Marvel Studios first major hit in 2008, Iron Man wasn't exactly a house hold name. Now, in 2015 we're living in a world where my grandmother knows who Tony Stark is...
The Invincible Iron Man is set to hit comic stores this fall.
