The Skrulls have invaded Earth. The Avengers are in the Savage Land and can't tell if they should trust one another. The Fantastic Four were either captured by the Skrulls or trapped in the Negative Zone. And the Initiative has been taken out (and they are pretty much useless anyway). So what do you do? Well, if you have a fire you call a fireman, if there's a crime you call a police officer, but when you have a bunch of Skrulls trying to take over the world, you call the one person you could trust to get the job done. He called Deadpool, The Merc with a Mouth. That's right, when poop hit the fan, Nick Fury went to Deadpool to get the job done. So how does he get it done?
Step 1: Show the Skrulls your skills.
When the skrulls invaded in a baseball arena, Deadpool closed the dome and trapped them in with him. Then, Deadpool proceeded to slaughter a bunch of Skrulls in front of any high ranking Skrull watching. When they sent in their Super Skrull, he dropped their spaceship on him. Boom, they see his skills.
Step 2: Gain their trust:
Deadpool allows himself to get captured and then tells the story of how he was experimented on and how he was used by humans. So why should he trust humans? The Skrulls didn't care. They gassed Deadpool and experimented on him to get his healing powers. But Deadpool explained that his healing factor wasn't enough to defeat the heroes of the world. He needed to teach them how to be bad-ass.
Step 3: Train them wrong and wait
Deadpool pretty much made all of their new Deadpool Super Skrulls as insane as he is. By the time they realized what he had done, it was too late.
So why this story:
Continuing with the theme of great Deadpool stories, this one represents his skill as a planner. Another common misconception is that Deadpool just attacks without planning and that couldn't be further from the truth. Deadpool doesn't go into fights recklessly. After being in the military and working with Cable, Deadpool knows how going in with a plan can make the difference between failure and success. Even when Deadpool does go in blind, he has the ability and know how to get himself out of almost any bind. These are all things that Deadpool does in the this story. On top of that, this is one of the first stories where we get to see "Pool-O-Vision". Another great start for new Deadpool fans.
