If there is one thing that people detest about Superman, it's that he is boring. It's not that he doesn't kill people, it's that he doesn't have an edge. Maybe it's because Superman doesn't have a tragedy that defines him like some of the great heroes. Batman's parent's were shot and killed in front of him, Spider-Man was directly responsible for his uncle dying, and Wolverine...well, everything happens to Wolverine. While Superman has lived a pretty charmed life. A ton of superpowers, adopted by a family that cares for him, and even beloved by the world regardless of what he does. What is the one thing that could send Superman over the deep end? How about causing the death of Lois Lane, their unborn child, and everyone in Metropolis? Yep That will do it.
The Joker kidnaps Lois Lane and set it up so Superman thinks he is fighting Doomsday, when he was really fighting Lois.During this, Superman kills Lois and their unborn child. If that wasn't bad enough as soon as her heart stopped beating, a bomb goes off that destroys all of Metropolis. Why did Joker do this to Superman? Why would he stop going after Batman? He said he was tired of losing to Batman and decided to, as he said, "Play the game on easy". Superman does the one thing that Batman should have done a long time ago. He puts his hand right through the Joker's chest and kills him.
This was long overdo and there probably isn't a villain more deserving of death than the Joker. But it doesn't stop with the Joker. Superman decides that there will be no more deaths and no more crime. He says that he has been not been using his power to it's fullest and has failed the world. With the Support of Justice League members like Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), and Cyborg, Superman plans on keeping the world safe by any means necessary. Batman, on the other hand, knows that Superman is going to go too far and plans on doing everything he can to stop Superman from becoming a tyrant.
Injustice is based off the events that happen before the popular 2013 video game. The story in the game was absolutely amazing, but left a ton of questions. All questions that could be answered by telling the story of what happened before Joker set up Superman to kill Lois. The good thing is that even if you don't enjoy video games, the story leading up to the game is amazing and well told. After you read volume one, you'll be running to get volume two. Volume one is full of shocking moments because no one in this book is sacred. Anyone can die, which leaves you on the edge of your seat after every page. And there's a death that even brought a tear to my eye.
