Alright so gonna start this by saying this isn't like a top movie list so if I don't write about a movie you really like that you think people should watch then kinda get over it. Also we know that Ghibli kinda rules the world of anime movies so I figure this will be a nice lil change of pace instead of seeing just Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away being thrown around as a need to watch. We all know those movies are great and if you haven't watched a Ghibli movie then just go do that now. Cool now that being said lets get into it.
Sword Of The Stranger is a great action movie that is very beautifully animated. Right from the beginning of the movie it starts with a bunch of bandits attacking travelers and end up getting demolished by them. Then just jumps to a kid stealing stuff trying to get food for himself and his cute lil shiba pupper. Boy meets a weird samurai that ends up saving him and they go on a journey together. Movie is filled with all sorts of feels miscellaneously through out it and really gets to to build a solid character connection with the protagonists. Though this movie is pretty great it starts to feel kind of rushed at the end of it for the final big fight scene that they have. Also at least for me it left me wanting to learn more about character backgrounds. Maybe they have that sort of stuff in a DVD/Blu-Ray special feature sort of thing. If you want to get hype watching a cool action movie then you should for sure give this movie a watch.
PG-13 but there is blood and strong language
Wolf Children is a movie that will probably make you cry. Like if you don't cry or at least tear up watching this movie then I don't know I guess congrats ya big ole toughy you. This shit got me choked up like 15 minutes into it and then once things seemed safe near the end even though it was kinda predictable still ended up getting hit with a wave of emotion again. Movie focuses really on the difficulty of raising children with special characteristics and shows us that no matter how hard we try things never really go how we plan them to. Kind of hard to describe this movie with out giving away too many spoilers in general. So you'll have to watch this for yourself to get a better feel for it. Animation is really great and the voice acting leaves a big impact as well.
All Age Appropriate
Perfect Blue is one of those movies that at the end of it really has you saying things like "what" and "I'm so confused". Kinda takes a couple of times watching to get a good feel for the movie, but it's just genuinely so interesting that it keeps your attention the whole time. Movie really deals with the stressful life of a woman that was once a part of an idol group that is now trying to transition over into the world of acting. Doesn't sound too hard, but shit get's real when she finds out she has a stalker making death threats. Cool as heck sound track and Satoshi Kon's artwork is some of the best in the game. Check out the movie Paprika after this too if you really like the artwork.
R-Rated Definitely R-Rated
Magical Sisters Yoyo & Nene is for sure the least known movie on this list, but it's super bright art and fun to watch. One of the most powerful witches somehow gets sent to another dimension that's basically our world. For some reason people keep turning into some goo monsters and Yoyo decides to take up the job herself and puts her 100% success rate at stake to save Tokyo. Super fun to watch and has some really touching moments in it and may make you tear up a bit at times. Also there's a cat with a skull head so there's that too.
Rated G this one's for everyone to enjoy
Alright y'all still with me for the last suggestion I'm going to make? Well if you're reading this then cool yeah you're here and you're getting the best suggestion out of all the movies cuz duh everyone always saves the best for last when doing a list. Can't show your trump card at the beginning or no one would care about the rest.
Redline is the coolest racing movie you'll ever watch whether it be live action or animated. Space racing is awesome and a lot of stuff doesn't have to mechanically make sense. They do a great job of incorporating science fiction in the movie with every single character thinking outside of the box for their design. Personalized sound track for a lot of the side characters that the introduce too which kinda has me impressed. The race in this movie will have you on the edge of your seat at the very end too. The creators are quoted to say "we wanted to make the greatest movie of all time and I believe we've achieved that" and I have to say they did a pretty damn good job with this movie. Out everything I've suggested thus far put this at the top of your list if you haven't watched it yet or even if you have just watch it again.
R-Rated for language and mild nudity
